Leash vs. hands-free belt for my 70 lb lab mix, and I'm sticking with the belt
Everyone on my block tells me a regular 6 foot leash is all you need, but after 4 months of getting my shoulder yanked whenever a squirrel bolted, I bought a $30 hands-free belt and I'm not going back. People say the belt makes you less in control, but Bailey pulls less with it because the pressure sits on my hips instead of my wrist, and I can actually hold a poop bag and a coffee at once. Last week a delivery truck backfired on Elm Street and she lunged, and the belt kept her from getting loose while my neighbor with the short leash had to chase his beagle into a hedge. If you walk a strong dog on busy streets, why is the short leash still the default advice around here? Curious if anyone else made the switch and what you think about the belt.
