My grandma's buttons in a jar vs my labeled binder, and I honestly can't decide which one is the better collection
My grandma kept every button she ever cut off a shirt in one old pickle jar, and when she passed I found it in her sewing desk back in Ohio. I started my own button collection two years ago and did it the "right" way, sorted by color and size in a binder with little plastic sleeves and index cards. When I dumped her jar out on the table I knew maybe 15 of the 200 buttons, and that was half the fun, just guessing at them. So which is it, does a collection need labels and order to count, or is a messy jar of mystery buttons actually better? Curious what you all think, do you sort your stuff or leave it loose?
