Tried writing a prompt from a villain's grocery list, got a full novel outline

I sat down with a notepad and just listed what a bad guy would buy at Target, stuff like bleach and a birthday cake, then tried to turn it into a story seed. Three hours later I had a 12 chapter plot map about a suburban dad snapping, which was way more than I wanted. Has anyone else had a silly constraint spiral into way bigger work than you planned?
