Debate: Does a strict outline hurt or help your first draft? I saw a huge shift in my writing after 3 months of trying both ways.
I used to just freewrite everything and then spend 2 weeks fixing the mess. Then I switched to rigid chapter outlines for a 50,000 word novel and finished the first draft in 10 days flat. But the scenes felt flat, like I was just checking boxes instead of letting the story breathe. Now I'm back to a loose bullet list that I adjust as I go, and my word count is climbing faster again. Some writers swear by detailed outlines to avoid dead ends. Others say they kill creativity. Which side do you lean on and what timeframe of trying it changed your mind?

Just outline the major stuff and let the details fill themselves in.

Works way better than overthinking every little thing.

Wait you're just winging the small stuff entirely?
