Saw a 400 ton crawler at the Port of Tacoma last month and could not believe the track size
I was up in Tacoma for a family thing last month and drove past the port, and there was a 400 ton crawler sitting there waiting on a barge. The track pads on that thing were wider than my car, no joke, probably 4 feet each. What got me was the counterweight stack, they had it broken down into like 6 separate slabs sitting on the deck, each one stamped with the weight. I have run 90 ton truck cranes my whole career so seeing that scale in person was something else. Made me think about how different the load charts and setup math must be when you are dealing with that much counterweight and those ground bearing pressures. Any of you ever made the jump from truck cranes to crawlers, and how long did it take before the setup felt normal?
