String lights behind the shelf changed my whole corner vibe

I used to rely on one lamp for my reading spot, and it made everything look flat and dull. About 3 months ago I ran a cheap set of warm fairy lights along the back edge of my bookshelf, tucked behind the top row. Now the light bounces off the wall and hits the spines at an angle, and the whole nook feels like a little cave. It cost me $8 at a dollar store in Portland and took maybe 10 minutes to set up. Has anyone else played with backlighting their shelves instead of using a lamp on top?
