Spent $9 on a bench scraper to cut dough, and now I can't decide if my hands were doing it better

For a few years I just used the side of my hand to work dough on the counter, then last fall I picked up a $9 bench scraper at a shop in Boise and it changed how clean my counter stays. My sister says the blade smashes the dough and she still uses her palm, so which one of us is wasting their time here?
