I swapped my $60 chair cushion for a $12 memory foam pillow from Target and my back stopped yelling at me
So my desk chair is nothing fancy, just an old steelcase I got off craigslist for 40 bucks about two years back. The seat pad was flat as a pancake so I bought one of those gel seat cushions for like 60 dollars at staples. It felt okay for a week, then it started sliding around and honestly my tailbone hurt more than before. I got fed up and one afternoon at the Target on 3rd I grabbed a basic memory foam pillow for 12 dollars. I folded it in half and shoved it in the chair. That was 5 weeks ago and I have not thought about my back once since. I know it sounds dumb but the cheap thing beat the expensive thing. Has anyone else gone backwards on cost and gotten a better result for a desk setup?
A memory foam pillow from Target is not built to hold up under eight hours a day of sitting, so five weeks is not really long enough to know if it will last. I tried the same thing with a cheap pillow in my garage chair and it felt great for about two months before it flattened out and my back started complaining again. The gel cushion you tossed probably would have worked fine if you had put a shelf liner or a strip of velcro under it to stop the sliding, which was the real problem all along.
