Unpopular opinion: rinsing my French press with cold water first made my brew taste flat
I started pre-rinsing my French press with cold tap water in Austin about 2 weeks ago because a video told me it stops the glass from cracking. The first cup tasted thin and sour, and I couldn't figure out why until I realized the cold water was dropping the temp so much that my 200F pour landed way under where it should be. Now I rinse with hot water and let the pot sit for a minute before I add grounds, and the body came right back. Has anyone else had a cold rinse kill their extraction like this?
