My neighbor told me my pour over was too bitter and suggested I grind coarser. I switched from a fine grind to something closer to sea salt and the difference was night and day.
I had been using a pretty fine setting on my burr grinder for about 6 months and just accepted the bitter edge. After that tip, I went up two full notches on my grinder and now the coffee tastes clean and sweet. Has anyone else had a similar fix for their morning brew?

Dude YES! This exact thing happened to me like two years ago. I was using this fine setting because I thought that's what pour over needed. Coffee always had this harsh, dry taste that I just figured was normal for homemade brew. Then a barista friend watched me make a cup and basically laughed at my grind size. I went from a 12 to a 16 on my Encore and it was like a whole new world opened up. Now I can actually taste the fruity notes in my beans instead of just burnt bitterness. It's wild how such a small change makes that big of a difference.

Funny how that works with so many things in life. Its like when you're adjusting the temperature on a thermostat. One degree up and you're sweating, one degree down and you're freezing. We just assume the default setting is the right one until someone points out the obvious. Same with salt in cooking, or pressure on a garden hose. We get locked into one way of doing something and dont realize the dial goes both ways. Small tweaks, huge results.
