A concrete guy in Reno showed me his daily log app and I'm never going back to paper
I was on a pour in Reno two weeks ago and the concrete sub pulled out his phone to log a slump test instead of the little wet notebook he used to carry. He showed me the app and it time stamped everything, photos, weather, truck numbers, all of it. I've been running paper daily logs for 15 years and I thought I was faster, but he pulled up a log from 6 months ago in about 9 seconds while I was still flipping through my binder. The part that got me was when the inspector asked for a record and he just texted a link from his phone right there in the mud. I've been testing one on a small tenant job in Sparks and it's saving me about 40 minutes a day on write ups. What are you all using for daily logs, because I'm only 2 weeks in and I want to pick the right one before I commit.
The timestamp thing is what sold me too. I run a small remodel crew and we do a lot of kitchen and bath jobs where the inspector wants to see when things got done, not just that they got done. Paper logs always left me guessing on exact times. I switched to an app about a year ago and the part that saved me was setting it up so my guys could log from their own phones and it all dumped into one place. No more chasing three different clipboards at the end of the day. My advice is pick one where you can pull a record fast and export it as a PDF, because half the inspectors I deal with still want something they can print out. The other thing is make sure it works offline, since a lot of my jobs are in spots with bad signal.
