My uncle in Waco told me to chain down equipment at four points, not two, and it finally clicked
I was helping my uncle haul his mini excavator outside Waco last weekend and he made me redo every tie down because I only used two chains. He said he learned the hard way back in the 90s when a backhoe shifted on him on I-35 and nearly took out a sedan. These days everything has fancy ratchet binders and I figured two was plenty, but he just shook his head at me. Made me wonder how many of us got lazy with straps because the new gear feels so solid. Anyone else had a close call that made you change how you tie down?
Man that story about your uncle on I-35 hits home. My old man towed a skid steer with two straps once and one snapped on a curve, spun the whole trailer sideways into a ditch. Took us three hours to get it out and he never cheaped out on tie downs again. Your uncle sounds like he knows what he's talking about, four points just makes sense because if one lets go the load still has something holding it. Good on you for actually listening instead of getting mad about redoing it.
