Learning my old tilt deck weighs 2,000 lbs more than I thought
Was going through the registration paperwork on my 1989 tilt deck trailer last night, just checking the VIN numbers for insurance. Saw the empty weight listed and almost did a double take. The original bill of sale says 14,800 lbs, but I always figured it was closer to 12,500 based on how it sits on the axles. Called the local DOT office in Tulsa to confirm, and sure enough, the factory spec sheet matches the registration. That changes how I plan my loads, since I've been running over on some permits without realizing it. Anyone else ever get surprised by the actual stamped weight on their older equipment?
