Trowel finish came out flat on my first big drive in Riverside
Did a 900 square foot patio last week, my first real job without my uncle watching. I always fought with the trowel, getting those swirl marks and uneven spots. This time I slowed way down, kept the concrete wetter longer, and did a second pass about 40 minutes after the first. Night and day difference, it actually looks like something you'd see in a magazine. Took me about 6 tries over the last year to figure out the timing. Has anyone else found that waiting longer between passes makes a bigger difference than anyone tells you?

Yeah, I found the same thing on my second patio job in Modesto. Waiting an extra 20 minutes between passes did more for me than any technique change ever did.
