Warning: I picked a cheap thermal paste for a gaming PC repair and it cost me

Had a client bring in a high-end rig with overheating issues. I could either use the premium paste I keep in stock or grab a generic tube from the shop next door to save $8. I went cheap. After the repaste, temps only dropped 5 degrees and the client called back two days later with the same problem. Had to redo the whole job with the good stuff on my own time. Anyone have a budget paste that actually works for heavy loads?

Ugh, tell me about it, @hart.sage. You buy the cheap stuff once to save a few bucks and suddenly your project is held together by hopes and prayers. It's a lesson you only need to learn the hard way one time.

Learned that lesson fixing my own backsplash last year. Switched to the good stuff from the tile shop and it was like night and day. The cheap paste just crumbled when it dried, but the proper adhesive held strong and was way easier to work with. Now I just factor the cost of quality materials into every project from the start. Saving a few dollars upfront always costs more in time and frustration later.
