The $20 thermal paste kit I laughed at just fixed 3 overheating laptops
I bought one of those generic thermal paste kits with the spreader and cleaning wipes off Amazon for 20 bucks, figured it was junk. Two weeks later I used it on an old Dell that was shutting down under load and an HP that kept throttling, both dropped 15 degrees under stress. Anyone else find those cheap kits work as good as the name brand stuff, or did I just get lucky?
The real hidden cost is how much paste you waste with the cheap syringes vs the name brand ones. My tube dried out after two laptops because the cap fit loose, so I had to buy another one anyway. That $20 kit breaks even only if you use every drop right away.
