Fouled my umbilical on a deep mudline job in Morgan City and finally got it cleared
Was working a pipeline tie-in off Morgan City last Tuesday, about 60 feet down, and my umbilical got fouled on some old debris near the riser. Comms started cutting in and out and I could feel the drag on my helmet every time I turned my head. I stopped moving, took three slow breaths, and backed off the way I came instead of fighting it. Took about 4 minutes of feeling my way along the hose by hand until I found where it wrapped around a chunk of rebar. I signaled topside, they gave me slack, and I walked the hose off the debris one loop at a time. Came up clean with comms back and finished the tie-in that same dive. My tender said I looked calm but my heart was going a mile a minute the whole time. Any of you keep a specific trick for finding a foul without a camera down there?
