A 20-year vet told me my dive logs were too neat, and it stuck with me
Ran into an old guy on a pier job in Galveston last week, he glanced at my logbook and laughed, said neat logs mean I'm not learning what the water actually does to gear and bodies. It hit different because he pointed at two specific dives where my bottom times were identical and asked if I really breathed the same every minute. Anyone else get told something that flipped how they track their dives?
Neat logs mean you're not learning, that's the line that gets me. Same bottom time twice doesn't mean same dive either, could've been fighting a current on one and floating on the other. My crappy handwriting actually helps here, I scribble stuff like "cold on descent" or "reg was breathing wet" right in the margin. Those little notes tell me way more than a clean chart ever did. A perfect logbook is just a story you told yourself after the fact.
