Stopped using coolant mist and switched to flood coolant on my Haas mill
I used to run coolant mist on my Haas VF-2 for 3 years straight. Thought it was fine until I got a job with tight tolerances on 304 stainless and the mist just wasn't cutting it. Parts kept coming out with surface finish issues and tool life was garbage. Switched to flood coolant last month after a guy on here recommended it and now I get way better chip evacuation and the inserts last nearly twice as long. Anyone else make the switch from mist to flood and notice a big difference?
Oh man, that 304 stainless with mist is a nightmare, I feel your pain. I did the exact same thing a few years back, kept thinking mist was good enough until I actually tried flood and it was night and day. The difference in tool life alone makes you wonder why you waited so long. Chip evacuation is the big one, those stringy chips just stick to everything with mist and then your finish goes to hell. I'm glad you made the switch, it's one of those things you just have to see to believe.
