Question about that 15 minute warm up rule, my old lead hand in Toledo said it was a waste
He ran a Haas VF2 for 19 years and swore you could skip the warm up cycle and just send it. I believed him for about 4 years. Then I read a spindle maker's own service note that said cold starts are where most bearing wear happens, something like 70% of it in the first few minutes of running. Started doing 15 minutes every morning and my surface finish on aluminum got way more consistent. My old lead still thinks I'm wasting shop time. Anyone else got a story about a habit you picked up that a veteran swore was pointless?
