I stopped dialing in a fresh setup and started touching off on a scrap plate, cut my first part scrap rate way down
I used to burn 2 or 3 parts every Monday morning after a fixture change on the Haas. My old lead in Fort Worth told me to quit trusting the offsets and touch off every tool on a scrap plate before the first real cut. I started keeping a 6x6 plate of 1018 next to the vise, and now I zero everything on that and only trust the numbers after one air pass. Last month I ran 40 parts on a rush job and scrapped exactly zero. Am I crazy for thinking this should be taught on day one instead of the whole trust your offsets speech?
