Found out feed rates are the reason half my parts looked like garbage

I was blaming my tooling for months, swapping inserts and spending cash like crazy. Then I dug through the machine's manual last Tuesday and saw the recommended chip load for my spindle speed. Turns out I was running 30% under the ideal feed, so the tool was rubbing instead of cutting. Checked my last 50 parts and every single rough finish traced back to that one number. My boss never said a word, but the scrap bin was full of my stuff. Fixing that feed rate took my surface finish from 125 to like a 32 on the same setup. Anyone else had a basic setting like that wreck their day for way too long?
