Showerthought: my uncle swore a $12 fuel filter would fix the stumble on my '68 C10, and I laughed at him for a month
He kept saying "change the cheap stuff first, dummy" every time I brought it up at his shop in Fresno. I was sure it was the carb, ready to drop $300 on a rebuild. Finally got tired of hearing it and spent the twelve bucks. Truck ran clean the next day. Still not sure if I'm more mad about the month of guessing or how smug he looked at the next family BBQ. Anybody else get talked into the simple fix by a relative who won't let you forget it?
Sounds like the carb was never the problem, the filter was just starving it. Guess the real trick is doing the cheap stuff before you talk yourself into the expensive stuff.
