I always went top down because it felt natural, but he said at a 60 year old house in Buffalo I should start at the smoke shelf and work up so I'm not shoving soot into the vent. Did it his way on my next job and pulled maybe half the dust out of the air. Any of you switch directions depending on the flue setup?
