Raised a 14 foot wall in Kalamazoo with my uncle and forgot the portal header, so we cut the plates by hand
Last Saturday my uncle Ray and I were framing a garage in Kalamazoo and we got the whole back wall up before I noticed we never left a gap for the window. Ray just laughed, said "well, guess that window's moving," and we spent 40 minutes with a recip saw and a chisel opening it back up. I cut one jack stud short by a quarter inch and had to shim it, which still bugs me every time I walk past it. Anyone got a trick for marking openings so you don't frame right over them when you're moving fast?
