Pro tip: stop trusting the pressure treated tag, I measured 11 boards at my lumber yard last week
Went to pick up 2x6s for a deck job in Tacoma and noticed the stickers all said .40 but the boards felt way lighter than the batch I got in March. I grabbed my moisture meter and checked 11 of them, and 7 were above 19 percent, which means they were still soaking wet when they got wrapped. Wet lumber shrinks and twists once it dries on your framing, and that deck boards gap opens up 3/8 inch by fall. The yard guy admitted the mill pushed them out early to fill a backorder, and nobody there checks moisture on delivery. Now I keep a $30 pin meter in the truck and test before I load, takes 2 minutes and saved me a callback. Has anyone else seen this with their supplier lately, or is it just the yards around here cutting corners?
