Can we talk about how some guys still insist on using a speed square for every angle?
I work on a framing crew in Denver and I swear half the guys pull out a speed square for every cut even when a bevel gauge would be faster and more accurate. Am I wrong for thinking the speed square is overused or is that just the standard way to do it?

Speed square is the standard for a reason. It's quick and reliable for common cuts, and most guys have the angles memorized anyway.

Yeah, that's exactly it. People always chase the newest shiny thing but forget the basic tools work just fine if you know how to use them. Same thing happens in the kitchen. Everyone buying expensive gadgets for stuff a simple knife and cutting board can do faster. Or in the garage. People buy digital torque wrenches and laser levels when a good old fashioned bubble level and a click type wrench are more reliable. The fancy stuff just gives you more ways to screw up. Stick with what works and learn it right, saves you time and money in the long run.
