Hurricane canceled my beach trip, now I think I prefer the backup plan
Last August I booked a long weekend in Outer Banks, NC, that got wiped out by a storm warning 2 days out. Instead of rebooking, I stayed home and did a day trip to a state park about 40 miles away, no crowds, no humidity. I keep telling people the backup was better, but my buddy swears the real beach would've been worth the hassle. Which side are you on, do you push to reschedule the original plan or lean into the random alternative?

Notice how most disappointments in life work out that way. We build up this picture of how something should go, then when it falls through we stumble onto something simpler that ends up being more our speed. I have seen it with holiday dinners, weekend plans, even the job I retired from. The original plan feels like the right one because we picked it, but the backup often fits who we really are at that moment. Your buddy can keep his crowded beach, you found the better deal.
