A stranger at the hardware store made me rethink my whole no-backup habit

Was picking up a new roller cover last Saturday and this older guy in line noticed I was grabbing the cheap 9 inch ones. He just goes "you know those won't hold up if the job runs long" and I laughed it off. Then he told me he spent 20 years doing fire watch at a paint plant and always kept a spare setup in his truck, even if it meant eating the cost. I mean, I've been painting houses for 12 years and never once kept a backup roller frame. Two days later a nap came loose mid-ceiling and I had to drive 20 minutes to restock. That guy wasted 30 seconds of my life but saved me a whole afternoon eventually. Anyone else ever get a better tip from a random stranger than from years of doing the thing yourself?

Man, now I keep a spare key under my truck just in case. Random dudes know stuff.
