Three hours to find a missing aperture lever that was on my bench the whole time

Spent an entire Saturday rebuilding a Canon FD 50mm f/1.4, reassembled it, watched the blades refuse to close, tore it down twice, then realized the tiny actuating lever had slipped under my matte black work surface mat, has anyone else lost a part that was literally in plain sight for that long?
