One repeat client taught me more than any course did

Back in March at a local coffee shop in Austin, a bakery owner named Maria asked me why I kept pushing social media when her phone was ringing from an old flyer she'd stuck in a church bulletin. She said her best customers came from word of mouth, not ads, and she just needed more of those referrals. That talk made me realize I was giving clients generic growth plans when I should be asking who already loves them and how to get that love spread. Now I ask every new client for one specific customer story first, do you all dig into existing fans before chasing new ones?
