Seeing a friend's bullet journal page made me rethink inspiration versus copying
I loved how my friend organized her monthly goals with a specific color code and duplicated it in my own journal. She later spotted it during a visit and quietly asked if I got the idea from her. I admitted I did but didn't think to ask first, and now I'm unsure where the line is between being inspired and taking someone's work. When you find a layout you like, do you always credit the original creator, even for personal use?

Talk to your friend honestly and explain you just liked her system. I've been there, and now I ask before copying big ideas, but small things like color codes are usually fine. For personal use, I don't credit every time, but if I share online, I tag the source. Most people get that inspiration is part of the hobby, so just be open about it.

But what about tiny stuff, like a single color? @black.alice your advice makes sense for bigger systems. I just wonder if crediting every little thing gets silly.

Get why you're worried. Copying small things from friends always feels awkward. @black.alice is right about being honest with your friend. For personal use, I never credit every little idea. Inspiration is how we all learn and improve. Just don't claim someone's full system as your own if you share it online.
