Warning: that $18 warehouse club rotisserie chicken cost me way more than I thought
I used to skip the $5 rotisserie chickens at the big box store because I figured the meat would be dry and I'd toss half of it. Then a coworker in Cleveland said she stretches one chicken into four dinners for her family, so I tried it two weeks ago and now I'm a believer. The first night we ate the legs and thighs with rice, then I picked the rest and got three lunches of chicken salad plus a pot of stock from the bones. Total cost came to about $18 for the chicken, celery, mayo, and a bag of carrots, and that fed us five meals. The catch is I now drive 25 minutes each way to that store and keep buying stuff I don't need, so my grocery bill went up $40 that trip. Has anyone figured out how to walk out of those places with just the chicken and nothing else?
