Stop buying chicken breast, thighs cost half as much and taste better
I was walking through the Kroger on 5th in Eugene last Friday and boneless skinless thighs were $1.99 a pound while breasts sat at $4.49. People keep reaching for the breast because they think it's cleaner or healthier but thighs have more flavor and don't turn into shoe leather if you look at them wrong. I made a big batch of thigh tacos for $7 total and fed three people. What's the cheapest cut of meat you keep going back to at your store?
$1.99 is a solid deal but at my H-E-B in Austin the drumsticks are where it's at, usually 99 cents a pound and sometimes 79 on sale. Thighs do have more fat so they stay juicy, that part I agree with, but the texture gets to me after a while and my kids won't touch them. I still grab breasts when they hit $2.99 on the family pack because I can slice them thin for stir fry and they soak up sauce better than thighs do.
