Question about the one grocery habit that cut my food bill by $60 a week and I want to know if I'm fooling myself
Honestly I used to hit the store almost every other day and grab whatever looked good, and my food bill in Phoenix was running me around $190 a week for just me and my kid. Last month I tried planning the whole week around what was already marked down in the meat case instead of the other way around. I go in Sunday morning when they slap the yellow stickers on the stuff that expires in a day or two, grab 4 or 5 packs, and build five dinners off those. Last week I got chicken thighs for $1.79 a pound and a pork shoulder for $6 total, and I froze half of it that same night. Spent $128 that week instead of the usual, and we ate better than when I was buying full price stuff. Tbh the catch is you have to cook it within a day or freeze it right away, and you don't get to pick the menu before you walk in. Has anyone else built their week backward like this, and how do you keep from buying the same cheap cuts over and over until your family gets sick of them?
