My $15 rice cooker died mid batch and I'm not buying another one
It gave out on Tuesday while I was making a big pot of beans and rice for the week, so I had to finish everything on the stove in a regular pot. Everyone says rice cookers save you money, but mine only made it 14 months, and the plain pot method actually came out better. Anyone else just use a pot on the stove instead of replacing the gadget?
The "plain pot method actually came out better" part is the real story here. People treat rice cookers like they're magic, but all they really do is hold a steady temp and shut off when the water's gone. A pot with a tight lid does the same thing if you just turn the heat down and leave it alone. Once you get the water ratio down, you never think about it again. The gadget just adds one more thing that can break.
