Old timer at the supply yard made me rethink how I lay out my leads

Guy named Russ in his 70s watched me snapping lines on a commercial pad near Tulsa last Tuesday and said my lead spacing was killing my crew's pace before I even set a single brick, so I asked him to show me his math on it and now I'm second guessing every layout I've done for 15 years, anyone else ever had a random job site conversation flip their whole system?
