Question about misting my ferns: I stopped doing it daily and they got BETTER
Everyone in my plant group keeps saying mist your ferns every single morning, so I did that for about 8 months with a spray bottle I kept by the kitchen sink. Then in April my Boston fern started getting brown crispy tips and a mushy spot near the crown, and a guy at the garden center over on Route 9 asked me one question: is the soil drying out at all between sprays? It wasn't, and that was the whole problem, all that mist was just sitting on the leaves while the roots stayed wet. So now I water deep maybe twice a week and skip the bottle entirely, and the tips look way better. Has anyone else had misting backfire like this?
