Reading the ending first changed how I judge book clubs

Last month I tried skipping to the final chapter before our group discussion on a 600-page novel. I thought it would ruin it, but instead I caught a huge plot hole that nobody else noticed until I pointed it out. Our moderator in Portland got a bit annoyed, but 4 people thanked me after the meetup. Has anyone else tried reading backwards to spot inconsistencies, or am I just weird?

Skip the drama. You found a plot hole in a book, not a murder weapon. Book clubs are supposed to be about talking about the story, not treating it like a courtroom trial. If the moderator got annoyed, that says more about them than you. Most people read for fun, not to nitpick every detail across 600 pages. And honestly, if one plot hole ruins the whole book for you, maybe the book wasn't that great to begin with. Just read it normally next time and save the detective work for books you actually care about.
