Just realized half my book club keeps calling a plot hole what is actually just a slow reveal
We read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for our meetup at Dana's place in Sacramento and three people spent 20 minutes saying the ending had holes. The thing is, the answers were planted in chapters 4, 9, and 16, I went back and checked with sticky notes. I get that people read fast and miss stuff, but saying a book is broken when you skimmed it is not the same as a real flaw. How do you all bring up missed details without sounding like the annoying note taker in the group?
Brought my paperback to book club once with tabs sticking out like a porcupine and got called the homework kid for a month. Drop the receipts gently though, ask something like did anyone else catch what Celia said in chapter 9, it makes them feel smart instead of caught. Sometimes the real plot hole is the friend who read 400 pages in one night and forgot all of them.
