Propane forges beat coal, and I will die on this hill

I spent 8 years running a coal forge outside Tulsa and switched to propane last spring after borrowing a buddy's unit for a demo. The heat control is so much cleaner, no chasing fire cones or dealing with clinker, and my welds come out more consistent every single time. Has anyone else made the jump and felt like the traditionalists are just romanticizing the dirt and smoke?

Man, I feel you on this one so hard. I ran a coal setup for years back in the day and thought I was tough for putting up with the smoke and the mess, but the first time I tried propane it was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. You ain't romanticizing dirt, you're just tired of fighting your own equipment when you could be making stuff. The consistency thing alone is worth the switch, no more guessing if the fire's gonna cooperate. I get why some folks cling to the old ways, but there's nothing noble about breathing in that crap all day. Good for you for making the change, seriously.
