I finally figured out my headset preload blunder

A customer brought their bike back because the steering felt wobbly right after I worked on it. I had rushed through the preload adjustment and didn't tighten the top cap enough before securing the stem. What's your go-to method to avoid rushing and missing key steps like this?

A wobbly headset isn't that big a deal, honestly.

Give me a break, rushing through jobs is just part of the trade. Stopping to double check every step kills your speed and profit. A wobbly headset is a quick callback, not some major disaster.

Ask my route's mangled mail.

Disagree completely here. Rushing might save time now, but it causes bigger issues later. Callbacks eat into profit way more than taking a few extra minutes to check your work. Customers remember sloppy work and won't call you back for future jobs. (Word of mouth matters, you know?) Doing it right the first time is always cheaper in the end, even if it feels slower.
