Offset smoker hinge gave out at hour 9 of a 14 hour brisket, July 4th cook in Garland
Heard a pop and the whole door sagged onto my forearm, had to finish the flat wrapped in foil on a gas grill while my brother held the lid up with a broom handle. Anybody got a weld shop around Dallas that won't charge me a kidney, or should I just drill new hinges myself?
Skip the weld shop unless you know a guy, because a shop is gonna quote you shop rates plus a minimum and you'll still be waiting a week. Drilling new hinges yourself is the move if the door frame is thick enough to hold the bolts, just use a hinge with a longer leaf so you're not fighting the old holes. Line it up with the door shimmed in place first, that way it actually closes flush when you're done.
