Appreciation post: That random barber expo in Chicago that fixed my fade game

I went to that Barber Expo at McCormick Place last month mostly for the free samples. But I sat in on a demo by this older guy from Detroit who showed a trick with the clipper blade angle. He said to tilt the blade down just a little on the initial pass, not flat against the head. I tried it on my next client and the blend came out way smoother with zero lines. Has anyone else picked up a random tip at a show that totally changed how they cut?

Blade tilt was a game changer for me too.

Picked up that same blade angle trick two years ago at a show in Detroit. @dixon.iris is right, it really changes everything once you get the feel for it. I also learned to use a softer flicking motion on the wrist instead of jamming the blade into the hairline.

Hold up, is changing your blade angle really that big of a deal? I've been cutting hair for a long time and always just went with whatever felt natural. Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like folks get a little too caught up in the tiny details sometimes.
