TIL the bakery down on Maple Street keeps a "fail shelf" in the back for staff to learn from
I stopped into a small bakery on Maple Street this morning to grab a coffee and the owner let me peek behind the counter. Right by the ovens there is a shelf with about 6 ugly bakes on it, like a sunken pound cake and some flat macarons, each one with a sticky note about what went wrong. She said new hires study the shelf for their first two shifts so they learn how a bad bake looks and smells instead of just hearing about it. I kind of want to build my own fail shelf at home now, has anyone else kept their disasters around on purpose like that?
