My grandma told me to freeze my butter for pie crust and I ignored her for 3 years
My grandma kept telling me the trick to flaky pie crust is frozen butter grated on a box grater, not cold butter cut into cubes. I brushed her off for 3 Thanksgivings because every YouTube video said cubed butter was fine. Last November I finally tried it her way and the crust actually held its layers when I cut into it, no soggy bottom at all. The dough came together in maybe 4 minutes and stayed workable even in my hot kitchen. I made 2 more pies that week just to make sure it wasn't a fluke and both came out the same. So now I want to know what other old kitchen advice I have been ignoring because some blog told me different. Anyone have a tip from a family member that beat the internet version?
