Chose between my grandma's cast iron skillet and a $9 pan for cornbread, and I picked wrong
I had to bring cornbread to a potluck in Tulsa last Saturday and I stood in my kitchen for 10 minutes trying to decide between my grandma's old cast iron skillet and a cheap $9 aluminum pan. I went with the cheap pan since it was already greased and I was running late, and the bottom came out pale and stuck while the top got too dark. My grandma's skillet has 40 years of seasoning on it and I knew better, but I talked myself out of it. The potluck crowd still ate it, but my friend Dana said it 'tasted like it was in a hurry.' Does anyone else have a pan they always regret not reaching for?
