The Tahoe Rim Trail beat the JMT for me, here's why

I did both trails this past summer, 3 weeks apart. Everyone swears by the John Muir Trail, but the Tahoe Rim Trail was better for my style. The JMT has bigger peaks, sure, but the Rim Trail had way less permit hassle and I could resupply at actual towns instead of hauling 8 days of food. I also saw more wildlife on the Tahoe side, 2 bears and a dozen deer. The views of the lake from 9,000 feet beat any Sierra pass I crossed. Has anyone else felt the same, or am I missing what makes the JMT so special to everyone else?
