My uncle hiked the AT in '98 with a paper map and a payphone plan, and last week he asked me what a Guthook was
We were sitting on his porch in Asheville going through his old gear bin when he pulled out this ziplock of photocopied maps from Georgia to Maine. He said he mailed himself food drops every 5 or 6 days and called my aunt from gas stations when he could find one. I pulled up FarOut on my phone to show him the comments feature and he just stared at it for a minute. He asked who writes all that stuff and honestly I didn't have a good answer. Now I carry 28,000 miles of trail on a 6 ounce phone and still get lost at road crossings. Kind of want to do a 40 mile section with just the paper maps from his bin this fall, has anyone here gone back to full analog and actually stuck with it?

Man, do it, but photocopy those maps first or you'll hate yourself when one blows off a ridge.
