The week I stopped guessing on my rent vesting schedule
For two years I just tossed random amounts into my savings every month, like $150 one time then $600 the next. Last month I sat down and did the math on my lease renewal date and realized if I set aside exactly $325 per paycheck I'd have the full 3 months rent ready by June. Has anyone else tried matching their savings intervals to their actual bill due dates?

Match your pay periods to your bills, why wouldn't you?

Oh man, this is painfully relatable. I did the same thing for way too long. @noahmartin is right that matching pay periods to bills is obvious in hindsight, but nobody told me that when I was just throwing random cash at my savings like a game of darts. Once I matched my savings to my actual lease and utility due dates, the stress dropped so much. It makes you feel less like you're guessing and more like you're in control.

Hold up, I gotta push back a little. Locking yourself into a strict per paycheck schedule sounds good on paper but life happens, you know? What about months where the car needs a surprise repair or you get hit with a random medical bill? That fixed amount might leave you scrambling to cover the gap on your actual rent day.
